GeoGebra's ggb files are not associated with GeoGebra. Opening them from the terminal with xdg-open, or from the nemo file manager just opens the default archive manager (file roller in my case).

GeoGebra is registered for the correct mime type:
$ xdg-mime query default application/vnd.geogebra.file
geogebra.desktop
but the ggb files are not associated with that mime type:
$ xdg-mime query filetype myFile.ggb
application/zip
$ file --mime-type myFile.ggb
myFile.ggb: application/zip

A good mime info file is available on GeoGebra's website:
https://archive.geogebra.org/en/wiki/index.php/Mime_info_file

Package Versions:
- GeoGebra 5.0.357.0-1
- shared-mime-info 1.8-1
- xdg-utils 1.1.2-1

I forgot to set a summary for this task and can no longer change it.
I would be very grateful if someone could change the summary to "Mime type for ggb files not installed"

Upstream really should provide this themselves, rather than leaving it as a Wiki entry.

Incidentally, the package source is no longer available, apparently because they delisted it once they uploaded a new version (Electron-based).

currently upstream provides neither desktop nor mime info files unfortunately. As a kind of temporary solution I've added mime info file to our tree, it should work now.
