Description: after upgrade to cups 2.2.4-1 my printer does not appear anymore in the dialog box of libreoffice and okular (and maybe other applications?). It only shows "generic printer".

For information gtk3-print-backends is already installed and I can see my printer in firefox for instance. Also, localhost:631 shows that the printer is installed and configured (printing a test page works fine).

Downgrading cups and libcups to 2.2.3-1 solved the problem

Additional info:
* package version(s) cups and libcups 2.2.4-1
* config and/or log files etc.

Steps to reproduce: upgrade to cups 2.2.4-1

Seems to work well for me. No problems here. Check your logs, recreate the queue,...

Thx for your prompt answer. What logs should I check? What do you mean by "recreate the queue"?

I'm not the only one to have the problem: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=227947

Your issue may gtk3 print backend related. Check wioth gtk2 or qt apps.

This cups release has changes related to the printer queue. Try removing/readding the printer from the cups webinterface.

As I said I have the same problem with okular (my DE is plasma), but not in firefox. Gimp and cherrytree can see my printer. Kate doesn't see it.

I tried to remove the printer and reinstalling it from the web interface of cups, without success.

This is a regression from https://github.com/apple/cups/commit/7536de1a4a4ad68d51318a51b4aaa38fad216b74, it affects all Qt applications.

Thank you very much for this information. It explains why some applications work while some do not. For the moment I have downgraded cups and libcups and I will wait for a fix.

Will this have to be fixed at the cups side or in qt/gtk3-print-backend?
So far there's no issue report https://github.com/apple/cups/issues.

Is there a workaround? Just downgrading to cups 2.2.3 didn't fix the problem...
Edit: Too fast - libcups has to be downgraded as well... Sorry for the noise.

I can confirm the bug,

my canon LBP3000 printer is not see by okular, kate, and even libreoffice ( writer ),

but in GIMP I can see my printer,

downgrading cups and libcups to the 2.2.3-1 version solve the problem

Same here (Brother HL-5350DN): removing and installing the printer via cups didn't help. I had to downgrade cups and libcups to 2.2.3-1. Why does something like this always happens when I have to print the very important stuff? :)
