Details

I used to use Gentoo Linux and it has a very useful tool called 'etc-update'. This tool help us with solving conflicts in files in /etc after installing new packages. Arch creates files *.pacnew and then I have to manually look for changes and apply them. etc-update automatically invokes diff on these files and show me differences, even automatically solves trivial changes.

Will be fine if we have such a tool on archlinux.

There is a script for this already. Cannot remember its name but it's definetly not called etc-update. Try to search in forums.

it's against arch philosophy so i don't think we will have such a script official supported

Why it's against arch philosophy ?
This script invokes diff on old config file and on new one, corrects simple differences and if difference can not be solved automatically it asks us what to do.
