Create a ipynb.xml mime-info file and add it to the mime database 2. Create a jupyter.desktop file 3. Add the jupyter icon |

benjaminabel, has this been suggested upstream? Since your suggestion uses standard freedesktop stuff, there's no reason for every distribution to make their own mimeinfo and .desktop files when it could benefit users of any freedesktop-compliant system.
