does the 2.6.18 stuff from testing solve your issue?

I did an update to kernel26 2.6.18-3 from testing but it did not solved the problem.

Anyway, I discovered that am able to use my USB optical mouse if I am booting with the following entry in /boot/grub/menu.lst
# (1) Arch Linux mkinitcpio with fallback
title Arch Linux mkinitcpio with fallback
root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/hda3 ro devfs=nomount
initrd /kernel26-fallback.img

I tried to edit /etc/mkinitcpio.conf as follows :
HOOKS="base udev autodetect ide usb usbinput filesystems" (adding usb and usbinput to the default line)
then rebuild the image with mkinitcpio -g /boot/initrd26.img , reboot, but did not helped too much. The default boot entry did not activate the USB optical mouse in X.

SOOOOOOOOOOORY ! MY FAULT !!! I replaced by mistake kernel26.img with initrd26.img in mkinitcpio -g command :-(

So I did a proper mkinitcpio -g /boot/kernel26.img (that was the img file that the default entry in grub/menu.lst pointed to) and now ... IT WORKS !!!!!!

You can close the report bug , so I confirm .... the USB optical mouse WORKS FINE with kernel26 2.6.18-3 FROM TESTING but only after adding adding usb and usbinput to the default line in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf as follows:

HOOKS="base udev autodetect ide usb usbinput filesystems"

Thanks a lot for your help.

hmm one additional question, do you have MOD_AUTOLOAD="yes" in rc.conf?
and please post your MODULES=() and BLACKLIST=() from rc.conf
