Details

When attempting to boot the new kernel with the initcpio image, I get a kernel panic as it can not mount the root file system.

Let me know what details you require and I shall provide them as soon as possible to help with the testing.

Perhaps it's enough to know that I'm using SATA, perhaps modules for SCSI is missing in the image?
This task depends upon

Problem solved. I just had to add a couple of modules to the mkinitcpio config, rebuild the image and problem solved.

Sorry for this ticket.

question, to understand the problem better, you have 2 controllers or onyl one?
and what did you add to mkinitcpio.conf, thanks

Hi there,

I added the following modules to the MODULES=(libata sata_sil reiserfs). Both my root partition and /boot is running ReiserFS.

In regards to the controllers I've got three. One normal on-board IDE controller, another SATA on-board and another PCI attached SATA. On the PCI SATA Ctrl I have my drive attached. Could this be the problem?

Yes. If you don't specify the sata module, the order in which the sata modules are loaded is unspecified. If you have more than one controller, specifying the module like you did is the right way, to make sure it is loaded first.
