DetailsDescription:
Currently out libtool package provides libltdl.so, which leads to packages such as libneon, imagemagick, libcanberra and others to use it. Which in turn leads to extra .la files being present on the system, and bug reports such as Not to mention that with the fold of libtool and libltdl packages [note: I'm not saying it was a bad idea] additional dependencies are installed as mentioned in Gentoo already solves these issues by passing "--disable-ltdl-install" to the configure flags [1]. Can we do the same here ? Note we would need to rebuild packages that require the library. I've been using libltdl-less libtool + rebuild imagemagick/libcanberra for ~2 months without issues. I would gladly provide patches and/or extra info - just let ask. If you disagree with the request, please don't close the report immediately and let me reply to your arguments. |

If software can be build without using libltdl, then you can pass a configure option to over-ride it detecting libltdl int he first place. Take that approach rather than removing an upstream default part of the libtool package.
