Description:
I have an Acer C720 Chrome book with Syslinux (6.03-6) as the boot loader. After Arch Linux bumped the Linux kernel to 4.8.8 I could no longer boot. The laptop gets as far as "Probing EDD (edd=off to disable)... ok" before immediately rebooting with no further output. This was confirmed by several other users on the Arch forum with similar hardware. See: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1693586 It appears that there are two commits on the master branch in the Syslinux Git repo that fix this issue. Indeed, the Debian package for syslinux added these two patches some time ago. See the thread here: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=780765#54 I updated a local copy of the Arch Linux Syslinux PKGBUILD to include these patches, and I am now successfully running Linux 4.9.11-1 on my Acer C720 Chromebook so they do seem to fix my issue. Additional info: * package version(s) syslinux 6.03-6 I've attached my patch to the PKGBUILD if that is useful. |

syslinux-6.03-7 with patches from upstream has been pushed to
[testing]. Please give it a try.
I downloaded and tested [testing]
syslinux-6.03-7-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz (sha1sum:
7a25111b8414ef388c6a526e9bcc4d17175ac33c), and it works for me.
