My Samsung X60 laptop freezes on the ACPI Video code. Currently that code is compiled into the default kernel. I request a change to the default kernel config to compile the ACPI Video code as a module, then we (I and, at least, theller on the bbs) can avoid it. Thanks for your time.

can you please try 2.6.18rc4 kernel? there are much acpi changes in it.

Your 2.6.18rc4 package exhibited the same symptom- freezing at boot up when the ACPI kernel status messages are being shown. Thanks.
