The version detection in the autotools generation scripts is broken not autoconf. :-)

So what can i do to fix this errors?
Comment by Alexander Baldeck (kth5) - Wednesday, 23 August 2006, 13:52 GMT
use an older autoconf from CVS/ABS and build it yourself or file a bug on that project's tracker. the latter probably is the preferred way since we only support autoconf 2.60 with our packages, sorry.

There's no ABS/CVS older version available. The bug you think is in autotools or autoconf? Wich project should i report?
Comment by Alexander Baldeck (kth5) - Wednesday, 23 August 2006, 14:16 GMT
if you compile kmess from CVS, report it to the kmess project.

older versions of autoconf which have been in arch can easily be found here:

So it's the package fauls. Also in kdevelop i get this:

*** YOU'RE USING autoconf (GNU Autoconf) 2.60.
*** KDE requires autoconf 2.52, 2.53 or 2.54

I think archlinux its too ahead that they can't keep up :)

well, i've built kdebase just 2 days ago. that was with autoconf 2.60. :)
Comment by João Rodrigues (gothicknight) - Thursday, 24 August 2006, 00:06 GMT
kdebase != kdevelop, in kdevelop there's still no support for 2.6 autoconf so i'll need to wait for some update.
Comment by Alexander Baldeck (kth5) - Thursday, 24 August 2006, 07:39 GMT
i know, but it says that KDE does not support the new autoconf. anyway, file that for kdevelop as that one needs to be fixed. i'm sure you can easily patch that extra version 2.60 into kdevelop and send it in.

can't second this, builds fine here
Comment by João Rodrigues (gothicknight) - Thursday, 24 August 2006, 16:03 GMT
using kdevelop to compile an pre-selected "KDE default hello world" app? Can be a PEBKAC from here?
Comment by Alexander Baldeck (kth5) - Thursday, 24 August 2006, 17:00 GMT
that's a bug in kdevelop not packaging problem, you see. i thought it was about building arch packages.

anyway, works for me.
Comment by João Rodrigues (gothicknight) - Thursday, 24 August 2006, 21:24 GMT
in the PKGBUILD i think not, i didn't even try to build that myself. It's when kdevelop calls autotools to create the makefiles for the project.

Kmess project is already warned

thanks, we'll be waiting for updates.

There's an workaround for the problem using admin/ folder from KDE it self. I've also reported this to the kmess-cvs package maintainer. It could be a good workaround/fix for some other packages.
