Steps to reproduce:

Install the ekiga package at the system which has not the gnome-icon-theme package and you'll see the red crosses instead of some images in the UI.

Is adwaita-icon-theme installed on your system?

Yes, it is. Version is 3.22.0+1+g58cd459e-1. But without of the gnome-icon-theme there was not some icons in the ekiga.
