Description:
Apparently Gnome is preferring to read this file to convert monitor EDID manufacturer ID into a human-readable manufacturer name. We are contemplating whether we should do something similar in Qt, but for some reason this file is omitted from the hwids package on Arch. http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/67983/get-monitor-make-and-model-and-other-info-in-human-readable-form Or is this file omitted because it's redundant? What is supposed to be the canonical reference then? |

The README there says it comes from an "MS database" I found one that looks like it ought to be authoritative http://www.uefi.org/pnp_id_list (downloadable in Excel format... yuck) and this https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/drivers/install/plug-and-play-id---pnpid-request says that manufacturers should request their IDs from uefi.org... so there you go, let Fedora do the work, scrape the web page, use some tool to convert the excel to text, ... ? there must be a better way...
- pci.ids, usb.ids: upstream links (see
FS#48446)- add pnp.ids (taken from fedora repo)
Ubuntu also provides pnp.ids file.
