Description:
The module pinctrl_cherryview is since version 4.7.3 built-in to the kernel due to a change in the Arch kernel build config file. This module when loaded crashes with a kernel panic my laptop (Acer Cloudbook) and possibly other similar laptops.

Compiling my own kernel changing the line CONFIG_PINCTRL_CHERRYVIEW fixes the issue but this does take many hours to compile.

Additional info:
* package version(s): 4.7.3 onwards
* config and/or log files etc: https://git.archlinux.org/svntogit/packages.git/tree/trunk/config.x86_64?h=packages/linux#n3784 - config file showing the line which is the problem, this was set to 'M' in previous versions.

Steps to reproduce:
Be on an affected laptop model
Attempt to boot the default Arch kernel

Is this issue still valid for you?

This laptop no longer works as of ~3 years so unfortunately I cannot test it anymore.

Thank you for asking.
