I found the following PKGBUILDs that have depends=(..openldap..)

lib/nfsidmap
extra/lib/pwlib
extra/daemons/autofs
extra/network/pdns-ldap
extra/x11/wine
extra/system/pam_ldap
extra/system/nss_ldap
extra/system/dirmngr
community/lib/python-ldap
community/daemons/hula
system/gnupg

I'm curious if some of these would also work with libldap alone.

All of them will work fine, we didn't have time and resources to rebuild these yet.

These still depend on openldap:
autofs
pdns-ldap
pam_ldap
nss_ldap

I'm not sure about 3 others but autofs should depend on libldap IMHO.

Yep, those four and python-ldap in community (WillySilly's by the way), anything else got lib'ified.
