Confirmed. I'm checking if this is a bug in terminator itself or vte. I'm also working on deploying version 1.90, which is gtk3.

There was an upstream bug regarding this:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/terminator/+bug/1522568

But it seems that there wont be any more work on the GTK2 terminator:
https://launchpad.net/terminator/+announcement/14357

I will start working right now on a new GTK3 terminator package.
