It still works fine here. Also, systemctl enable hidepid doesn't do anything.

I installed the hidepid package on 11 Arch Linux machines. Works fine on all but one. On the eleventh, I get the "Waiting for hidepid to start" message on boot, which seemingly waits forever. To get that machine to boot again, I ended up having to boot into the Arch installer to uninstall hidepid.

So what's different about that setup?

Nothing relevant that I know of. Eight of the machines are headless servers, one is a laptop, and two are desktops. The one exhibiting the issue is one of the desktops, and is set up pretty similarly to the laptop and the other desktop. I am attaching the output of "pacman -Qqet" for the two desktops, in case it helps. The file package-list-1.txt contains the package list for the desktop with the issue.

And did this ever happen before or is this new?

Can't really say whether this is a new issue. I only learned about hidepid last week. Happened the first time I rebooted after installing the package.

Oh, sorry, I just realised that this issue actually extends back to at least October. Davis Forquer, the guy that originally opened this bug, reported the issue on the forums back in October: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=218472
