DetailsI installed ClamAV, set "yes" to START_FRESHCLAM and START_CLAMD in /etc/conf.d/clamav (see attached), configured the clamd.conf and freshclam.conf (see attached) files, and then tried to start the clamav daemon. However, the start function will not leave a "Busy" status. The command I used is listed below. If I add the clamav daemon to run at boot in /etc/rc.conf the same thing occurs.
# /etc/rc.d/clamav start The clamd.log (see below) shows that it has started. If I run KlamAV as a frontend it is able to start the clamav daemon when the program starts, so I do believe the daemon is running properly whether begun manually or with the frontend. The problem is that if I want to use rc.conf to start clamav it hangs during the system boot and won't proceed past "Busy". +++ Started at Sat Aug 12 15:45:18 2006 clamd daemon 0.88.4 (OS: linux-gnu, ARCH: i386, CPU: i686) Log file size limited to 2097152 bytes. # Default: disabled
Foreground
If you configured clamav to start in the foreground, the rc script will never end, as it will wait until clamav exits. Usually it starts in the background, returning control to the initscript after starting the daemon.
Works great and I learned something new.
Solved.
