Comment by mattia (nTia89) - Thursday, 01 December 2016, 22:02 GMT

Looks like systemd now uses ellipsis to shorten the messages on terminal... Probably an UTF-8 issue.
Does your system locale support UTF-8?
Comment by mattia (nTia89) - Thursday, 01 December 2016, 22:23 GMT
yes, my locale is `en_GB.UTF-8` only

That's rather untelling. Do you have anything defined in /etc/vconsole.conf? /etc/locale.conf? What's the output of `localedef --list-archive` ?

This doesn't sound like a systemd bug...

[mattia@arch-xps ~]$ cat /etc/vconsole.conf
KEYMAP=it
[mattia@arch-xps ~]$ cat /etc/locale.conf
LANG=en_GB.UTF-8
[mattia@arch-xps ~]$ localedef --list-archive
en_GB.utf8

PS: only now I realize that the wrong character appears also just before the 'File System Check'... as you can see from the shot

and, second PS: during the boot I get a in the 'Started Load/Save Screen Backlight Brightness' entry, in the shutdown, the same entry (Stopping/Stopped Load/Save Screen Backlight Brightness) doesn't have it
