Description:
Firefox 50.0-1 crashing randomly. This was not an issue in the previous version (49). Also happening with a fresh profile, no add-ons.

Additional info:

(firefox:13411): Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'firefox' received an X Window System
error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied)'.
(Details: serial 38114 error_code 10 request_code 130 (MIT-SHM) minor_code 1)
(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE environment
variable to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Steps to reproduce:
Browse random websites long enough; segfaults happen about twice a day with moderate usage.

The crash is reproducible on at least one profile by going to about:addons and trying to search for more.

Caught this error earlier: https://ptpb.pw/Q-5G

Issue was not present after downgrading to 49.0.2.

I think I have a way to reproduce this:
Go to https://openstreetmap.us/iD/release/ , click "edit" and zoom/move the map around. Crashes after less than one second for me.

I've tried to run it with GDK_SYNCHRONIZE but then (unfortunately?) the bug does not appear...

I cannot reproduce.

Tim, are you using Stylish? The crash in about:addons occurs only with this theme enabled:
https://userstyles.org/styles/31267/global-dark-style-changes-everything-to-dark

Can't get it to crash on the OpenStreetMap page.

Note: That is not the only place the crash occurs for me..
Comment by Tim Ruffing (realorrandom) - Tuesday, 22 November 2016, 11:52 GMT
No, I use the default theme. And actually I get the crash even in safe mode, which is consistent with the initial report ("no add-ons").

Will report my issue to Stylish, and mess around in safe mode when I get a chance..

Have had a new profile running in safe-mode for most of the day; playing with the OpenStreetMap page without any crashes.

Okay, it crashes in safe mode for me but not with a fresh profile.

With FF 5.0.2-1 the workaround (setting layers.acceleration.force-enabled = true) only works for embedded maps. With non-embedded maps (ie in their own tab) the setting must be 'false'.

I've reported this upstream.

Apparently this should be fixed in FF 50.1.0. It's definitely fixed in the current beta 51.0b6.
Comment by Doug Newgard (Scimmia) - Friday, 06 January 2017, 19:07 GMT
Can anyone confirm it's fixed in firefox 50.1.0-1?

Confirmed.
