Hi,
When you run pacman normally, if packages are to be replaced (j2re => jre, mozilla => seamonkey...), you are asked for a confirmation. However, if you run pacman with --noconfirm, it will not ask you if replacements are OK (as expected), but you don't have any notification about the replacements being done: only removed packages and installed packages are displayed. When running pacman with --noconfirm, would it be possible to display a message for each replacement, before the suppressions? For example: [root@archie ~]# pacman -Su --noconfirm Replace: gimp-print => gutenprint Replace: ethereal => wireshark Replace: j2sdk => jdk Replace: j2re => jre Replace: mozilla => jre Remove: gimp-print ethereal j2sdk j2re mozilla Targets: gutenprint-5.0.0-1 wireshark-0.99.2-1 jdk-1_5_0_07-1 jre-1_5_0_07-2 gtk2-2.10.1-1 seamonkey-1.0.3-1 apache-2.2.3-1 [...] To be more descriptive about why i miss this feature, i run pacman in two steps: 1) "pacman -Syuw --noconfirm" i run it in an xterm, and do something else meanwhile... When the download is over, i look at the list of packages that will be installed/removed and proceed to step 2. 2) "pacman -Su --noconfirm" I follow this step actively to see if everything is OK and to check the renamed config files. This is for me the most efficient way to install packages, however i discovered recently that i miss the "renamed packages" information in step 1. Best thanks |
