Fresh install of 7.2, including xorg. Install xdm as logon
manager, twm as window manager. Edit /root/.xinitrc to run
twm. Whether started with startx or from xdm, X session as
root fails to start the window manager, and X must be killed
with Ctrl-Alt-BS.
Executing the command: cp /etc/skel/.xsession /root/.xsession corrects the problem. It appears that /root/.xsession should be installed automatically somewhere along the way. Non-root user accounts work under the same conditions, because they are given .xsession files from /etc/skel when they are created. |
