Like the summary say, xplanet doesn't work. I install it, then type "xplanet" from a command line, but nothing happens.

This is low priority, of course.

confirmed here.

it runs here.
It may be an issue of what wm you're using and how it is managing the root window.

I'm running KDE. I haven't tried it under another WM, but I'll do so when I get a chance. In the mean time, maybe you can try running it under KDE. I'm not sure if that was what Dale was running when he confirmed the bug.

I just tried under kde, and in fact it did not work.

However, I found a little workaround, at least in KDE:
-Right click your desktop -> Configure Desktop
-In the Background tab, hit "advanced options"
-check "use the following program for drawing the background, and select xplanet
-hit OK and in the "background" box, select "no picture"
-hit apply and/or OK and enjoy your xplanet desktop

Well, you get the idea anyway. It looks like you can customize the xplanet args and so forth as well.

I'm using xfce4.

Perhaps this has something to do with the fact that I have a background set in KDE.

Anyway, when I run "xplanet -window" I'm able to bring up the image. Or when I run xplanet in a different WM (e.g., IceWM).

Why don't you close this bug. It's a really, really, REALLY insignificant bug on a completely low priority package. The only reason I filed it was because I thought xplanet wasn't rendering at all. I see now that it is, but that it's conflicting a bit with KDE. So big deal - run it in a separate window then! :-)

No reason for anyone to waste any more time on this. Sorry for wasting as much as I did.

xplanet -window opens for me too. I wasn't aware this was an option.
