FS#5076 - Removing Epiphany breaks gdm/Gnome
|
DetailsI just did a complete install of Arch Linux with Gnome on a new computer. Since I don't use Epiphany, as usual I did a pacman -R epiphany and the next time I tried to log into Gnome, it would not bring up Gnome. I got the following error descriptions
Start description Your session only lasted less than 10 seconds. If you have not logged out yourself, this could mean that there is some installation problem or that you may be out of diskspace. Try loggin in with one of the failsafe sessions to see if you can fix the problem. View details ~/.xsession-errors /opt/gnome/etc/gdm/Xsession: Beginning Session setup... /opt/gnome/etc/gdm/Xsession: Setup done, will execute: /usr/bin/dbus-launch /opt/gnome/bin/gnome-session Failed to start message bus: Failed to read directory: "/opt/gnome/share/dbus-l/services" : No such file or directory EOF in dbus-launchreading address from bus daemon End description Re-installing Epiphany fixed the problem. With epiphany installed, I can log into Gnome. I could re-create the problem by simply removing Epiphany again. I'm not sure if this is an Epiphany problem, a gdm problem, a Gnome problem, or a dbus problem. Thanks Don |

By the way, this happened on a fresh install. I have several existing Arch installations that I removed Epiphany from a long time ago, then updated through the pacman -Syu process and they work without Epiphany just fine.
This was a standard installation, using the vanilla kernel.
