I've just installed Arch on a different laptop today and I don't have the reported problem with dia. The only reason I can think of is that I'm using VESA mode on the problematic laptop, so I'll install a graphics driver on Monday/Tuesday and see if it helps.

Installing a graphical driver (in my case it was xf86-video-intel) fixed the issue. Sorry for wasting your time.
