Installed kde using pacman -S kde. Control Center/Sound & Multimedia/Sound System/Hardware/Select Device had no options in it as the package had not installed esd(Enlightened Sound Daemon). This Option is essential in kde to get alsa working correctly.
The package was working a few days ago so if no changes have been made to the KDE group then it may be a problem with pacman.
This task depends upon

kdelibs was updated by me .. so pacman has nothing to do with it, i think

--without-esd is missing in kdelibs i think ... will check that asap

--without-esd do not exist for kdelibs ... only for kdemultimedia and it is set, so i cannot see any dependence for esd for kde

i can add esd as dependence, but dont see the reason for real

what versions of kde do you use?

pacman -Q kdelibs
pacman -Q kdemultimedia
pacman -Q kdebase

you did not compile it yourself, right?

i rebuilt
kdelibs, kdepim 9days ago
kdebase 6days ago
kdegraphics yesterday

(all because for bugfixes) ... but never changed anything on kdemultimedia

I'm using kde 3.2.0. The problem is that without esd kde is stuck on autodetect for the sound system. The only way I can get sound to work is to install esd and then change sound system from autodetect to alsa. Only once I have installed esd I can chose between alsa/oss/esd/no audio and threaded oss. Without esd the sound system throws up errors and crashes.

--without-esd is a compile-option for kdemultimedia ... i can recompile it with esd and add esd-dependency (what will solve all problems, i tested it yesterday) ... i'm testing again not to have to update 2x or more times (have low bandwidth for uploading :-) )

Don't need a fix now. Gone back to windows after the nvidia driver died for like the 20th time. Might come back to linux (yet again :-p ) when nvidia put out a stable driver.
