Description
===========

Currently installing hunspell-en installs all the english variant. It's quite problematic in GUI software to choose the right dictionary (see http://ctrlv.in/827324)

I would like to be able to have only the variant I'd like (for example just en_US)

Currently my only way is to delete the symlinks in /usr/share/hunspell, which must be done again after each update.

The same apply for each locale (fr, de,...)
This task depends upon

There's no hunspell-en pkg anymore. Only hunspell-en-GB includes symlinks of variants. If you want en-US just install only that one. I won't split it any further.

So if I want to speak British english instead of American, I’m screwed? And in my case I might need both (I’m sometimes asked to write in either one or the other).

Naive question, what are those variants symlinks used for?

The variants symlinks are basically just to make sure a second language variant is registered, which is supposed to be identical to the original. e.g. all the en_GB_aliases languages are actually just British english regardless of the country code...

@Eli: That I got. My question rather is: is it useful to actually have them?

They're taken from Fedora spec file. I expect other packages and apps to make use of it to preset/detect existing hunspell installation corresponding to system locale. Maybe it's best you do a custom build removing those alias.

OK, will do that then. You can close again, thanks.
