DetailsWith the latest GIMP package (2.2.12), the application's ugly little icon no longer appears in Gnome's menu. I could really care less, but this does seem like a minor slip...

${datadir} is not replaced by /usr/share in the .desktop file. Also, the categories entry is wrong, it starts with Application, which is invalid according to desktop-file-validate. The gimp entry does not appear in my gnome menu, when I remove Application; from the .desktop file, it appears again.

Ick, GIMP is no longer detected by Menumaker. This little problem is a bit more annoying than I thought.
