Hi,

Since the last update cpupower is not doing is job properly.
Especially the following command do not work anymore:

sudo cpupower frequency-set -g performance

My system:

What, exactly, is not working? Things are going to be different with the pstate driver instead of the old cpufreq driver.
Comment by Alexandre Bique (babali) - Saturday, 30 July 2016, 17:38 GMT
The frequency is not locked to 4000MHz anymore. It goes down to 800MHz most of the time.
Comment by Doug Newgard (Scimmia) - Saturday, 30 July 2016, 17:39 GMT
Yes, that's what pstate does.
Comment by Alexandre Bique (babali) - Saturday, 30 July 2016, 17:48 GMT
Anyway I downgraded it to version 4.6-4 and it works again.
Comment by John (graysky) - Sunday, 31 July 2016, 00:29 GMT
Although not supported, I have verified this behavior on Arm ARM as well[1].

Same applies to my AMD FX-8370. So not only intel processors are affected by this bug.
Comment by William Light (wrl) - Tuesday, 02 August 2016, 17:49 GMT
Can duplicate. Manually changing the governor by doing `echo -n performance > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu<X>/cpufreq/scaling_governor` works.

Attached are strace outputs from both 4.6-4 and 4.7-1. Notice that 4.6-4 writes the relevant governor to the aforementioned node in /sys, while 4.7-1 does not.
Comment by John (graysky) - Tuesday, 02 August 2016, 17:50 GMT
...has anyone reported this upstream?
Comment by nope (hpstg) - Friday, 05 August 2016, 03:52 GMT
Cpupower no longer changes the CPU governor. That's on a i7 2600k with a P67 motherboard. Manually setting it using echo CPU_GOVERNOR | tee /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/scaling_governor >/dev/null works. Setting perf_bias seems to work normally.
Comment by Brandon (Cabbage_c) - Thursday, 11 August 2016, 09:25 GMT
Cpupower doesn't change cpu frequency or governor on my i5 laptop after last upgrade. At first, I noticed that `cpupower.service` was disabled, not by me apparently. Then I enabled and started it, but cpupower didn't work either.

I guess this is the upstream bug report : https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=135391
