I managed to build OpenSCAD from source (github master
branch) with Qt 5.7 (latest Arch package) and run it
successfully, so I don't think there's any reason to hold
back anymore.
All packages IMO need to work on reducing the need for Qt 4, so that someday it can practically be left uninstalled. |

The CMake build in master *only* supports Qt5, and the script they use for detecting your distro and installing build dependencies specifies Qt5 on a variety of distros including Arch Linux.
Since there hasn't been a release in 2 years, maybe it would be worth asking for a new release?
