Downgrading to 1:2.99.917+641+ge4ef6e9-1 seems to fix it.

please report it upstream...
Comment by Sharad (docbroke) - Friday, 13 May 2016, 04:27 GMT
additional info:

- in addition to above bug affects fonts display in terminal (not consol/VT) (tested with sakura & tilda), fonts are invisible when typed but appears after pressing "enter".
- bug also affects qutebrowser (qtwebkit based)
- after starting application like mpv or chromium, bug disappears ( until that application is in use), so one can use terminal/qutebrowser normally if mpv or chromium is running
- as posted above downgrading fixes the bug

I have a similar issue to that of Sharad (docbroke) with rxvt-unicode. It only occurs in TearFree mode. I reported it upstream: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=95400
