Details

Description:
Tried to remove all traces of the gitlab packages (uninstalled all packages, rm /etc/webapps/gitlab* /var/lib/gitlab /usr/share/webapps/gitlab*, userdel gitlab). Reinstalled packages. Now when executing the setup job:

su - gitlab -s /bin/sh -c "cd '/usr/share/webapps/gitlab'; bundle-2.1 exec rake gitlab:setup RAILS_ENV=production"

I still get the same error. It goes away if I do: chmod 755 /etc/webapps/gitlab

Note that, weirdly, it seems that /etc/webapps/gitlab/secret gets overwritten when the package is upgraded. I must put the secret token there again before gitlab becomes fully functional.

There probably was a permission problem when you originally installed the package because frankly I mixed up the permissions in the first few releases. I now added the secret to the backup array which should prevent it from getting overwritten. I'll close this bug for now as the cause for the original problem is fixed. Please make new reports for all further problems.
