Details
Mentioned in #48899, recent updates to GNOME and associated
libraries have completely broken GNOME on two machines. When
GDM attempts to start, a cursor briefly appears over the
tty, and then disappears, in a cycle. Downgrading pango
seems to fix GDM not loading, but UI widgets are deformed if
only pango is held back. I was able to fix both machines by
reverting to the packages from April 8th, but the system is
completely unusable after a full upgrade.

Reason for closing: Not a bug
Additional comments about closing: Pango problem is from a partial upgrade; update fontconfig.
UI widget problems are from broken themes.

Looks like this may have been caused by using infinality's
outdated fontconfig and associated packages.
