CUPS will not respond to any requests of engaging the printer.

E [26/Jun/2006:13:55:53 -0700] CUPS-Get-Default client-error-not-found: No default printer
E [26/Jun/2006:13:58:57 -0700] Unable to open job control file "/var/spool/cups/c00092" - No such file or directory!

Here is the output when I tried to set it as the defualt printer through the web interface:
E [26/Jun/2006:14:03:35 -0700] [Job 95] Could not find a suitable printer!
E [26/Jun/2006:14:03:35 -0700] PID 3041 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/ppmtospl2) stopped with status 2!

Well, as far as I know so far, hosts file and permissions are NOW normal. I admit there was a problem before, but before cups was upgraded, it was able to work anyway. To be more precise, the error in my case seems to be nothing more than inability to print. The printer prepares to print, and then stops. And, it refuses to let me set the default printer.

Here is the output of a CUPS restart:

Further news on the CUPS-not-working-front:
I reinstalled the driver with Samsung's driver scripts and got this message:
CUPS_BackEnd: get-printers failed: client-error-not-found
