The last upgrade of gdm don't permit autologin as report in this bug :

The last version of gdm resolv this problem as describe in changelog :

http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/gdm/2.14/gdm-2.14.9.changes

Could you upgrade the version of gdm to the last one ?
