Details

/dev/sr1 is missing for plextor sata dvd device, connected to promise sata card. The other devices, connected to the sata device, are two harddisks that work well. Beneath the sata devices, I use scsi devices, so /dev/sr0 is allready used by a pioneer dvd device.

I think the point is:: WARNING: ATAPI is not supported with this driver, device ignored.

what kernel are you using?
Comment by Moo-Crumpus (Moo-Crumpus) - Sunday, 25 June 2006, 16:01 GMT
genuine archlinux kernel26 2.6.17.1-1

Comment by Tobias Powalowski (tpowa) - Sunday, 25 June 2006, 16:52 GMT
did it ever worked? i mean is this a 2.6.17 problem or wasn't it working at all?
could you try other kernels like beyond kernel?
Comment by Moo-Crumpus (Moo-Crumpus) - Monday, 26 June 2006, 09:16 GMT
Yes, it worked, but I do not remember the kernel versions. It used to work in archlinux 0.7.1, then I reorganized my hd's with raid sets, and reinstalled archlinux with 0.7.2. It never worked since 0.7.2.

I will try out the beyond kernel.

difficult. I tried 12 mirrors so far: checking package integrity...
error: archive kernel26beyond-2.6.16.beyond4.1-1.pkg.tar.gz is corrupted
Comment by Moo-Crumpus (Moo-Crumpus) - Wednesday, 28 June 2006, 20:38 GMT
can't load it. Booting with mkinitcpio - image fails with kinit error soon after the jfs modules starts up.
Comment by Moo-Crumpus (Moo-Crumpus) - Friday, 30 June 2006, 10:26 GMT
... still no luck with kernel-beyond. I boot from scsi, while /home is stored on a raid0@sata. When I strip down mkinitcpio.conf to only check for scsi, kinit runs and stops then trying to mount md0 aka /home. When I add sata and raid, kinit fails.

kernel-beyond is running now, but no node is created.

come to irc to talk to me or seomthing like that?

if you want to try 2.6.18rc1 go here:
http://www.archlinux.org/~tpowa/2.6.18/
2.6.18 only uses initcpio keep that in mind.
if it works on 2.6.18 we could probably backport it to 2.6.17 series.

Comment by Moo-Crumpus (Moo-Crumpus) - Monday, 10 July 2006, 12:00 GMT
Huh. Allthough kernel26beyond booted well when I tried it, kernel26-18-rc1 didn't. Furthermore, I can no longer reboot in any other kernel. So I tried several live linux cds, and am surprised that none of them was able to boot the system. Each of them run in a freeze situation. Only the archlinux install cd was able to do boot up. I checked Windows Setup Boot, and that failed, too.

So my conclusion is, the hardware has some errors that I have to find out and fix. Maybe the missing node was the result of hardware issues, I guess the scsi bios and sata bios is in a kind of fight, but I can't figure it out very quickly.

Feel free to close this bug.

With kind regards - Moo
