Kernel panics are a kernel issue.
Comment by Rafael Fontenelle (josephg) - Thursday, 10 March 2016, 14:29 GMT
Today the kernel panic just happened once with gnome-shell 3.18.3-3 too.
p.s.: where is says 3.8.14-1 in package version above, I meant 3.18.4-1

The kernel panic happened with Linux kernel 4.4.3, and it is still happens in 4.4.5

Can confirm this unfortunately...

In the logs, I can see this:

Mar 08 13:15:08 CKKVZX1 gdm-password][997]: pam_unix(gdm-password:auth): conversation failed
Mar 08 13:15:08 CKKVZX1 gdm-password][997]: pam_unix(gdm-password:auth): auth could not identify password for [rffontenelle]
Mar 08 13:15:08 CKKVZX1 gdm-password][997]: gkr-pam: no password is available for user

Would that be the source?

Is this still an issue with current packaged kernels?
Comment by Rafael Fontenelle (josephg) - Friday, 28 July 2017, 11:28 GMT
Really sorry for this long silence.

No, its not an issue for me. Some time ago it stopped happening and I tried, without success, to find out which package update solved it.
