I am slovak translator of Gutenprint project.
I have translated gutenprint to cca 93%, but all strings are displayed in english. One of a devs of gutenprint checks my translation, and it is properly merged in CVS. I looked at PKGBUILD and it looks like localized ppds are disabled: ./configure --prefix=/usr \ --sbindir=/usr/bin \ --enable-samples \ --enable-cups-ppds \ --enable-cups-ppds-at-top-level \ --disable-translated-cups-ppds \ --disable-globalized-cups-ppds \ --disable-static \ --disable-static-genppd |

I don't think it's worth the effort. You will see the strings only once when installing the printer ppd not at every day use like an office application.
I guess this feature request should be rejected.
So it cant be used only while installing printer. you can see this strings in many apps, while configuring printer settings(i.e. Gnome control center -> printer settings).
Idea to split gutenprint to lang packs is great!
Simplified ppds with only common paper options are ~41MB, full ppds would be ~165MB that's way to much.
