Urm, I just had this conversation on #archlinux-offtopic where a guy (JJN_) could not make an AUR acct because his pacman output did not work. Our neighborhood's friendly Swede helped him out so he could submit.

The string was the base32 of '\n .--. Pacman v5.0.1 - libalpm'

And apparently, nobody should be locked on what pacman version they may use with AUR...
This task depends upon

So what was wrong, did he not have the most recent version of pacman installed (that's in [core] of course)? If that's the case, he could have registered by a quick and simple upgrade then doing what the captcha requested. The Wiki also has a similar captcha that requires the most recent version of pacman also.

If he's using a separate distribution (even one that ships a different version of pacman), he should register by booting into an Arch computer or boot the Arch Live image to get the correct response.

The way I understood the problem was that his local version was newer, and I think it's just a bad idea to make an exact match for the version number. The problem that lead him to ask on irc was that the error was hard to find because the upstream infrastructure appeared to be out of date.
EDIT: And an Arch live medium? Pacman updates occur more often than that AFAIK.

Could you please explain how all this is related to aurweb? You do not need to solve a CAPTCHA when creating an AUR account...

Perhaps in the irc channel, he was talking about the Wiki and this is a result of a game of telephone (for lack of a better analogy).

This was indeed about the BBS.

I request this flyspray be deleted and this shameful bug report forgotten.

I think I'm going to move it to Arch/Websites instead of deleting it, because it's still a relevant bug report.

Thanks. Actually, I really could and should have looked it up, I'm a lazy derp sometimes.
I don't know what the environment is for the special sites on the wiki. Is there a way to get to the source of that one?

cheers!
