pcm_a52.c uses avcodec_{alloc,free}_frame that were removed in recent versions of libavcodec, so /usr/lib/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_a52.so can't be loaded (just try dlopen("/usr/lib/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_a52.so", RTLD_NOW) to check).

I wrote to the alsa_devel mailing list explaining the issue and proposed the patch I'm attaching - it would be good to include it in the current PKGBUILD though, until upstream is updated.

I experienced the problem with alsa-plugins-1.1.0-2 in combination with ffmpeg 1:3.0-1.
This task depends upon

Once upstream accept it I'll pull it in.

Could you please add link to the upstream discussion?

I'm still waiting for moderator approval of my message to the alsa-devel mailing list. As soon as I have a response, I'll let you know.

Is there any news? Could you please send your patch to the project maintainer directly (Takashi Iwai)?

I haven't heard back from them so far and also didn't find a better way to report a bug, so I just sent a mail to Takashi Iwai directly and hope I will get a response that way, thanks for the suggestion.

The patch is small and looks good to me. Taking into account that given pcm_a52 problem is a ffmpeg rebuild regression I am going to release alsa-plugins with this patch. Meanwhile please work with upstream on the fix.

alsa-plugins-1.1.0-3 is in [testing], please check it.

I just tried alsa-plugins-1.1.0-3 and it works fine for me and fixes the problem.
I'll continue to try to get upstream to fix this, although they don't seem to make it particularly easy to report bugs or propose patches :-).
