I see that VLC 2.2.2-2 in Testing is using ffmpeg 2.8 when ffmpeg 3.0 is available. I assume this is because of the blacklist check added by VLC after ffmpeg changed their hwaccel behavior when threading is enabled. Said change in behavior was reverted before ffmpeg 3.0 was cut from master and released, so VLC 2.2.x should in theory work with it.
If that's indeed the case then I'd like to request you to revert the blacklist commit http://git.videolan.org/?p=vlc/vlc-2.2.git;a=commitdiff;h=cb24e4f17548c961493a5e1a367ca299624d0cb1 from VLC for the 2.2.2-2 package in Testing and confirm it works. VLC should hopefully do it themselves as well before releasing 2.2.3.
