Downgrading the kernel only to 4.3.3-3 causes sound to come back.

I'm using ALSA only, no Pulse, OSS, Jack, etc. There are no errors dumped to the console or dmesg, /dev/snd nodes are present, and audio applications open them successfully (both as root and user).

On a 2015 Mac Mini:

$ lspci | egrep -i audio
00:03.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Haswell-ULT HD Audio Controller (rev 09)
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 8 Series HD Audio Controller (rev 04)

Not sure what other info is relevant, so just dumping some stuff:
$ lsmod | grep snd
snd_hda_codec_cirrus 20480 1
snd_hda_codec_generic 69632 1 snd_hda_codec_cirrus
snd_hda_codec_hdmi 49152 1
snd_hda_intel 32768 0
snd_hda_codec 106496 4 snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_hda_codec_generic,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec_cirrus
snd_hda_core 49152 4 snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_hda_codec_generic,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_intel
snd_hwdep 16384 1 snd_hda_codec
snd_pcm 86016 4 snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_core
snd_timer 28672 1 snd_pcm
snd 65536 8 snd_hwdep,snd_timer,snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_pcm,snd_hda_codec_generic,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec_cirrus
soundcore 16384 1 snd

$ cat /proc/asound/modules
0 snd_hda_intel
1 snd_hda_intel

$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
options snd_hda_intel index=1,0

is this issue still valid with latest kernels?
Comment by rendaw (rendaw) - Tuesday, 03 October 2017, 10:14 GMT
I don't have a problem now on 4.9.52-1-lts - I'm afraid I don't know which version it was fixed in though.
