Description:
This is the second Epson printer (different models) I tried to install by either the CUPS page (http://localhost:631/) or the GNOME printer utility.
In this case it was an Epson XP-235 Deskjet printer.
I have installed the epson-inkjet-printer-escpr 1.6.3-1 from aur (its using the actual EPson official driver shown for my device).
Both the gnome printing utility and the cups page discover the printer (it's over wifi) but fails finding the proper driver.

I managed to install it (the same was for the other Epson printer was the BX305) by command line, like this:

lpadmin -p EPSON_XP_235 -E -v "lpd://192.168.1.110:515/PASSTHRU" -P /usr/local/share/cups/model/epson-inkjet-printer-escpr/Epson-XP-235_Series-epson-escpr-en.ppd
This task depends upon

Reason for closing:  Not a bug

No log files or any useful info. And no support for AUR stuff here.

The reference to the AUR was given just to show that the recommended driver was installed. Which logs would be more helpful?

Guess cups doesn't look in /usr/local for ppds.
Comment by Andreas Radke (AndyRTR) - Monday, 08 February 2016, 21:11 GMT
That's what I also assume and should be found in the cups log.

The AUR package doesn't put anything in /usr/local/, where did that come from?
Comment by Luca Viggiani (lviggiani) - Tuesday, 09 February 2016, 09:43 GMT
The same ppd is also located here

/usr/share/ppd/epson-inkjet-printer-escpr/Epson-XP-235_Series-epson-escpr-en.ppd

so, I could also install the printer by command line like this

lpadmin -p EPSON_XP_235 -E -v "lpd://192.168.1.110:515/PASSTHRU" -P /usr/share/ppd/epson-inkjet-printer-escpr/Epson-XP-235_Series-epson-escpr-en.ppd

But stll no way to install it from GUI

Coincidentally, I set up a new printer today using the AUR package in question. No problems at all.

We'll need those logs, Luca.

OK, where do I find cups log?
Comment by Doug Newgard (Scimmia) - Wednesday, 10 February 2016, 15:00 GMT
Exactly where you would expect, /var/log
Comment by Luca Viggiani (lviggiani) - Friday, 12 February 2016, 07:37 GMT
Attached you may find hte log.

I tried to add it twice as cups discovers thr printer in two ways:

dnssd://EPSON%20XP-235%20Series._pdl-datastream._tcp.local/

and

lpd://192.168.1.110:515/PASSTHRU

For both, it says that it cannot find the driver.

How did you figure that was the correct log?

I'm convinced this is not a problem with CUPS. I'm going to close this, seek help in the forums, mailing list, or IRC. If you come back to an actual problem in CUPS, request this be reopened.
