Does this happen in Arch instead of Antergos?

I'm using Antergos so I can't test this on arch, but since the only difference is in the installer (all the packages are stock arch) and I had no other issues since 2013 my guess is the problem is either with my HW and drivers + the latest change in gnome-shell or just in gnome-shell. I tried to install previous kernel and nvidia drivers without downgrading gnome-shell but this did not help. O and I'm using nvidia-340xx driver not 304.

Now after downgrading gnome-shell I also had to downgrade libsecret or I can't connect to openVPN

Your logs indicate a segmentation fault in both gnome-shell-binary and gsettings. Those could be from gnome-shell 3.18.3-2 running with latest libsecret though.

I don't see any reason why -2 would work on your system and -3 doesn't.

I've installed a second antergos on a new partition and updated all the packages. There are some diferences in this two versions the new one uses lightdm the old one gdm. The old one does not boot with -3 the new one does. I've also reinstalled all the packages that are in the new one over the old one. The only thing I haven't done is removed the /var/cache/pacman/pkg cache and tried to reinstall that way. I'll try this and see what happens.

I've now switched the new installation to gdm (some issues regarding lightdm not locking my screen automatically when set through gnome settings) and it still works with all the packages updated. Unlike the old one it only works if I downgraded gnome-shell to 3.18.3-2. I will now try to change the old one to lightdm to see if that will work.

Another question - how can I be sure that gdm is not trying to use wayland when starting login? I have an nvidia 9650M with proprietary drivers nvidia-340xx installed and as I read wayland is not yet supported?
