I assume that open-iscsi's post_install() is meant to generate an unique initiator name for every system. But it never actually does that due to missing shell quoting.

When $(file) is empty, [ -z $(<file) ] expands to [ -z ], which is always true. It needs to be [ -z "$(<file)" ] or [ ! -s file ] instead.
