smplayer in extra depends on mplayer. However smplayer runs perfectly fine without mplayer, especially if you select mpv as executable file. mplayer should be an optdepends. Steps to reproduce: Install smplayer from extra pacman -Rdd mplayer open a video file with smplayer. It works just fine if mpv is selected as backend. Another possible solution would be to let mpv provide mplayer, but I think that'd be wrong and it's not the first time in Arch history that a frontend does not depend on its backend (case in point: network-manager-applet not depending on NetworkManager) |
