I was just about to create a new bug report, when I found this one. I had the same idea and modified the PKGBUILD accordingly (see attachment).

The changes are:
- split PKGBUILD
- qr executable was moved to the python3 package (conflicts with python-qrcode-bin from AUR[1])
- update to 5.2.2; pkgrel was set to 2 to also update packages built from AUR[2]
