DetailsUsing the default Muttrc shipped with the mutt source, gpg is not working. While gpg is the default on GNU/Linux operating systems, mutt is developed for a variety of operating systems using different pgp versions. Therefore, the mutt developers have no default gpg/pgp config in the muttrc, but ship sample files instead. So by shipping the default config file, gpg support is broken in Arch. I think the gpg.rc file from the samples/ directory (which is not even shipped with the package) should be patched into the /etc/Muttrc or at least there should be a message saying 'to enable GPG support, do FOO!' when installing with pacman...

I don't think it should be a systemwide setting. people are supposed to source gpgrc or whatever it is called from ~/.muttrc
