Description:
The etc/crypttab file says:

# The Arch specific syntax has been deprecated, see crypttab(5) for the
# new supported syntax.

but I have no idea what this "Arch-specific" syntax is about. What about:

# See crypttab(5) for the systemd-supported syntax.

This also does not seem completely accurate (or is at least slightly confusing):

# NOTE: Do not list your root (/) partition here, it must be set up
# beforehand by the initramfs (/etc/mkinitcpio.conf).

When the etc/crypttab file is created exists in the initramfs (e.g. by listing it FILES in in mkinitcpio.conf), it should be able to mount the rootfs. Alternatively, etc/crypttab.initramfs can be used (see mkinitcpio -H sd-encrypt), it might be worth to update the crypttab manpage and/or crypttab file to reflect this.

Package version:
* filesystem 2015.09-1
