Description:

Sorry to report the bug on New Year. After latest pacman update (00:15)

http://codepad.org/e2lTrIAz

linux kernel got updated and problems started. I usually try a few shutdown -r now after a kernel update to see everything is smooth. The system hangs on reboot with messages like that:
shutdown [1] failed to finalize filesystems, ignoring
echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/hung_task_timeout_secs" disables this message.
Not tainted 4.3.3-2-ARCH #1
task kworker/0:3:88 blocked for more than 120 seconds.

systemctl reboot works after a delay.

systemctl suspend stopped working.
systemctl poweroff stopped working.

journalctl -r from the period of the last successful suspend till 8am . (ignore apache testing.)

I have the same problem since I updated my laptop. Reboot and shutdown don´t work. When I want shutdown my laptop, I have to keep power button pressed. Everything was ok before I updated my laptop.

I have Arch on notebook and laptop - works fine. I have Arch on desktop - suspend to disk does not work at all. It hungs. Suspend to ram works.

the shutdown/reboot bug is still present in kernel 4.4.4-1!
it was on 4.3 and 4.3.1 and 4.3.2 and 4.3.3!

Is it possible to put suspend function to the status it was in 4.2.5.1 when it last functioned properly? I have been holding kernel updates with pacman IgnorePkg for almost a year and I doubt it is beneficial for stability and security of OS. I cannot reboot every morning and start and configure the processes for half an hour just because the suspend does not work.

is this issue still valid?
Comment by Pavel (psp) - Monday, 02 October 2017, 20:34 GMT
It certainly is as nobody issued a patch and people still use 32 bit systems. I am still on kernel 4.2.5.1 which is the last known version without the bug.

Have you tried 4.12 kernel?
