DetailsA binary gets copied by make install (I think) to $startdir/pkg/usr/bin, but since this dir does not exist and there's no trailing / it is created a "bin" binary.
Fix: add to the beginning of build{} the following line mkdir -p $startdir/pkg/usr/bin |

Additional comments about closing: Seems to be fixed with 2.2.8, no changes to PKGBUILD were required, they fixed it upstream.
